At 2:30 a.m. Thursday morning the Auburn
Fire Rescue Department along with Mass State Police were dispatched to the Mass
Pike eastbound at Bancroft St. for a motor vehicle accident involving two
tractor trailer units.
The driver of one of the trucks was trapped
in the vehicle and was extricated by Fire Rescue personnel using rescue tools
including the Jaws of Life. Rescue personnel had to cut into the side of the
truck to free the patient. The patient was in serious condition and transported
to UMass Medical Center. A second Ambulance was also requested to the scene for
two other patients. They were also transported to UMass Medical Center in
stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
Mass DEP and Auburn Water District were
notified about approx. 10 gallons of diesel fuel lost on the highway. Fire
personnel cleared the scene at approximately 7:00 a.m. and the accident scene
was cleared just before 8:00 a.m. and all lanes of the highway were opened. The
accident remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police.
